To improve dinking control, touch, and shot placement by practicing soft, controlled dinks against a wall, focusing on consistency and hitting specific target areas.
Equipment
- Pickleball paddle
- Pickleball
- Sturdy wall
How to run it
Stand a few feet away from the wall, holding the paddle in a ready position. Softly hit the ball against the wall, aiming for a specific target area that would simulate just clearing the net (e.g., a line marked on the wall at net height). As the ball bounces back, focus on receiving it with another soft dink, aiming for the same target area. Repeat the process, alternating between forehand and backhand dinks to practice from different angles.
Coach Dave’s cues
This drill helps develop touch and control for precise dink placement. It also enhances reaction time for incoming balls. Practice hitting to different spots on the "net line" on the wall.
Watch for
Hitting the ball too hard, causing it to rebound too quickly or uncontrollably. Not maintaining a soft touch, leading to inconsistent dinks. Failing to alternate between forehand and backhand.
