Setup

One team begins in the transition zone and one team at the non-volley line. The kitchen team starts each rally with controlled pressure toward the transition players.

How to run it

1. The transition team blocks or resets the pressured ball into the kitchen, preferably through the middle.
2. If the reset stays low, both players make a limited controlled advance and split.
3. If it floats high, both hold position and prepare to defend.
4. Continue until the transition team reaches the line in balance or loses the rally.
5. Switch roles after six starts and track successful low resets rather than rally wins alone.

Coach Dave’s cues

Use a soft hand, small swing, and stable paddle face. Let the opponent’s pace do the work. Advance together and expect another ball.

Watch for

Tight grip, lifting with a large swing, retreating automatically after a good reset, moving through opponent contact, or one partner advancing alone.
