Setup

Use normal doubles starting positions. The receiving team begins with a deep return and establishes the non-volley line.

How to run it

1. The serving team plays a third-shot drop or drive.
2. Before moving, the hitter or partner calls “go” or “stay” based on the ball’s actual quality.
3. Both players move together and split before the receiving team contacts the fourth ball.
4. Continue live, repeating the call after each reset or neutral ball.
5. Award a bonus point when the pair finishes the rally with connected spacing, regardless of the rally winner.

Coach Dave’s cues

One clear call is enough. Let the ball earn the advance. Protect the middle while moving, and expect to need more than one reset.

Watch for

One player charging alone, calling before reading shot quality, moving during opponent contact, or crowding the partner’s swing path.
