To master the soft touch and finesse required for hitting drop volleys (or dink volleys) that land just over the net into the opponent's non-volley zone, forcing them to move forward and hit up.
Equipment
- Pickleball paddles
- Pickleballs
- Pickleball court
How to run it
One player (Feeder) hits balls from the baseline to the other player (Volleyer) positioned at the kitchen line. The Volleyer practices hitting soft drop volleys that just clear the net and land gently in the Feeder's non-volley zone. Focus on keeping the ball low and controlled. Alternate between soft drop volleys and punch volleys to develop versatility.
Coach Dave’s cues
Develop the delicate touch needed for finesse volleys. Maintain balance and readiness for the next shot. This shot is about absorbing pace and redirecting softly.
Watch for
Hitting the drop volley too hard or too high. Not getting enough arc, causing the ball to hit the net. Using too much wrist instead of a soft blocking motion with an open paddle face.
