How to run it
One player serves continuously, concentrating on placing their serves as deep as possible within the opponent's service box. The other player focuses exclusively on returning these serves, also aiming for deep returns to make it more challenging for the server to advance to the net. After a predetermined number of serves and returns, the players switch roles. Crucially, the returning player should practice moving forward towards the kitchen line immediately after executing each return, simulating realistic game-like movement.
Coach Dave’s cues
When serving, target a deep spot in the opponent's court to force them back and gain better net control. For returns, a deep target will keep the serving team further from the net, providing the returner more time to establish their position. It is vital not to remain stationary after the return; always move forward as one would in a competitive match.
Watch for
Serving the ball too short, which allows for an easy and aggressive return. Returning the ball too short, permitting the server to comfortably take control of the net. Failing to initiate movement towards the net after the return.
