Practice concise partner analysis: observe, select one adjustment, return to play, and test it.
Equipment
- Pickleball paddles
- Pickleballs
- Pickleball court
Setup
Play a standard doubles game with a planned 30-second tactical pause after every four rallies.
How to run it
1. Play four rallies while each partnership notices opponent position and repeated choices.
2. During the pause, each partnership states one observation and selects one adjustment.
3. Resume for four rallies without changing any other variable.
4. At the next pause, evaluate the evidence: keep, modify, or abandon the adjustment.
5. Repeat once, then finish the game without pauses.
Coach Dave’s cues
Keep the conversation to observation, adjustment, commitment. Choose a target or pattern the team can actually execute. Support the partner’s role.
Watch for
Turning the pause into a technical lesson, changing everything at once, using a single miss as proof, or allowing the pause to cool players without safe movement.
