Equipment

  • Pickleball paddle
  • Pickleball
  • Sturdy wall

How to run it

Stand a few feet away from the wall. Hit the ball against the wall with an overhead lob motion, aiming for the ball to arc high and land (if the wall were the net and court continued) close to a simulated baseline. As the ball rebounds from the wall (and possibly the floor depending on the hit), react quickly and hit another lob, focusing on achieving the same target trajectory and placement. Alternate between forehand and backhand lobs.

Coach Dave’s cues

Focus on developing timing, power, and accuracy. Experiment with different spins and heights to add variety. Ensure an upward motion for a high loft.

Watch for

Not getting enough height on the lob. Hitting with inconsistent power, leading to lobs that are too short or too long. Poor timing of the swing.
