To significantly boost foot speed, overall agility, and coordination by performing a variety of quick step patterns through an agility ladder.
Equipment
- Agility ladder (often a rope ladder)
- Pickleball court (or any flat, stable surface)
How to run it
Lay the agility ladder flat on the ground. Execute various pre-determined footwork patterns, stepping in and out of the ladder's boxes or squares as rapidly as possible. Examples include placing one foot in each square, two feet in each square, performing lateral shuffles through the ladder, or moving with forward and backward stepping patterns. The emphasis should be on achieving quick transitions between steps and maintaining precise foot placement within the ladder segments.
Coach Dave’s cues
Consistently stay on the balls of the feet for optimal quickness. Ensure that all movements are controlled and precise, not just fast. Practice a diverse range of patterns to enhance overall mobility and adaptability on the court.
Watch for
Looking down at the feet excessively instead of developing a kinesthetic feel for the ladder. Executing sloppy footwork, such as frequently hitting the rungs of the ladder. Failing to maintain a consistently quick rhythm throughout the pattern.
